Voter turnout for the election that ended November 5 was higher than it was for the constitutional amendment election in 2011, but that’s not saying much: 1.14 million Texans voted. That’s only 8.5 percent of the state’s registered voters and only 7.3 percent of the state’s adult citizens.
The map below shows the turnout percentages by county for Proposition 6 — the constitutional amendment creating a $2 billion fund to help with water projects around the state (a list that is still being developed). Click on any county to see the total votes there, votes for and against the amendment, the number of registered voters and the turnout.
Below the map is a table of the top 50 counties (by votes cast), the margin in raw votes (Bastrop County, on the Colorado River, was the only Top 50 county to vote against the water fund), and the share of the total state vote each county represents (a list overshadowed by Harris County, which made up 20.9 percent of all votes cast on Prop. 6).

I think that the some of the most interesting information brought to light by this may is the high turnout in both St. Augustine and Shelby Counties that voted against Proposition 6. I'd suggest looking into the some of the factors of causation for this anomaly in respect to the rest of The State.

As usual, off year voter turnout was crappy; these votes should only be held when there are statewide office elections

David, it is. I think you're supposed to mentally decompose purple into dark blue plus dark red to know those are places where Prop 6 was very successful AND had exceptional droughts. Same for other places. Woulda been better to do drought severity as different kinds of cross-hatching, or something otherwise different from the color coding for prop 6.
