Texas Weekly's Hot List for September 13, 2010

The presentation for Texas Weekly's list of the most competitive races in Texas is lifted from the inventors of the federal terror watch, ranking districts by the threat to each incumbent (or incumbent party, in the case of open districts) and giving each group garish colors. Yellow means there's trouble on the sidewalk. Orange is trouble on the front porch. Red is trouble walking in the door.

Changes for the week of September 13: We added five races in response to feedback about what ought to be on the watch list. All five have Democratic incumbents, and we've got them on the Yellow list for now. But if current Republican exuberance turns out to be rational after all, these seats could be in play. The adds: HD-12, HD-74, HD-93, HD-107, and HD-134. Only one race changes categories this week: The CD-23 race, Red last week, is now rated Orange.

As always, incumbents' names are shown in bold.
